If you are out of work or running your own business, there are several alternatives for finding affordable health insurance in Ohio. Don't be scared off by fears that you will not be able to pay the premiums because there are a number of ways to control the costs and come up with a plan that you can afford which will meet your needs.

The simplest way that companies control the cost of premiums is by raising your deductible which makes you responsible for paying more out of pocket for health care. Often times, a high deductible is combined with a health savings account (HSA) to help you cover the medical expenses that come up. The theory behind this option is to put you in charge of your health care choices and make it worth your while to shop around for services in the same way that you would shop for a new car.

Anthem has a new plan which works on this principle, it is called Lumenos HSA. It is very similar to plans that many employers offer that require you to visit hospitals and doctors within their network to qualify for the best rates. Under this type of plan, wellness visits are covered at 100% while the coinsurance rate for other services might only be 80%. There is a limit on the amount of out of pocket expenses that you can incur in a year.

There are other more traditional insurance plans available to individuals in Ohio as well.

Their Premier Plan is one of the most expensive but includes a wide variety of benefits. Routine medical visits are completely covered with a co-pay.

Medical Mutual's main Ohio plan is Super Med One. Like most other companies, they require you to see doctors within their network for the best possible rates. There is a wide range of policy options with Super Med One which will determine the cost of your monthly premium. A high deductible and coinsurance rate can make the cost of the insurance coverage much more reasonable than you might think.
